To make sure this never happened to me, I got an electric fence and ran a single wire along the top of the fence.???????????????? ????? Actually, I got the biggest cattle charger Tractor Supply had, made for 26 miles of fence. I then used an 8 ft. long ground rod, and drove it 7.5 feet into the ground. The ground rod is the key, with the more you have in the ground, the better the fence works. One day I'm mowing the back yard with my cheapo Wal-Mart 6 hp big wheel push mower. The hot wire is broken and laying out in the yard. I knew for a fact that I unplugged the charger. I pushed the mower around the wire and reached down to grab it, to throw it out of the way. It seems as though I hadn't remembered to unplug it after all. ...    less

    Front Tires and Evil Trolls

I was riding my rigid frame pan/shovel, running a 12" over springer with a 21" Avon front tire. We were almost to Picacho Peak when my front tire just exploded... shredded into nothing but rim in about 4 seconds flat. We were riding two-up (side by side) and I was riding 'wing' (front right). Traffic was all around us and I knew I had about 2 seconds to live. So I did the only think that made sense to me.... I smashed the rear brake pedal as hard as I could. The back tire locked up and as it started to try and pass me on the left, it pointed the front of the bike at the shoulder. I let off the brake, goosed the throttle and hit the sand... at around 70! Now, the folks that live in that area know that the shoulder of I-10 varies between hard-pan, shrub patches and sections of flat, featureless sand. It was one of those patches that I hit. It did the same thing to me that it does to...    less

Heh, Black, I like your style and place in the visions created when reading your works. I too was born and raised in farm country, and can attest to much of what you have written.
Great adventure, it sure put a humorous slant to my day!

    I am a poser.
I pose when standing at the urinal, cuz to move around can be dangerous to my boots.
I pose when looking through those binoculars at the top of Mount Washinton, cuz I can't figger out why I rode all the way up there to look down.
I pose when sitting down to type this reply, cuz it's sorta hard to ride while texting.
I pose while staring into the campfire after I have solved all of the worlds problems during my contemplations.
I pose in front of the sign that says "Welcome to Hell Michigan", just to prove I have been to Hell and Back
So yeah, I 'pose I am a poser.

Well now, bein relatively new to the forum (I have been a member for a while, but haven't posted much), I thot this was a good one to get my feet wet on.
Ever since I was a lil kid, I have been told that I can't do this, or I can't do that. Which does nothing but sends my personality composition into that "I dare ya" mode. Again.
Tis a side of me that can get me into some hot water from time to time. Like that time I was sitting around the campfire down at the Michigan International Speedway, and my buddy dared me, with the promise of a six pack, that I wouldn't streak the track and the campground across the street. I did, and got that sixpack of Pfeiffer 96.
    (Wut-ina-L is Pfeiffer 96)
I never did drink any of that beer, just hung onto it and gave it back to my bro on some other dumbass bet a year later. He then turned around and paid off some bet to someone else with it. That sixpack is still running the gamut somewhere out there in bikerland.
     So there!
     I win !
But only on the condition I don't get that six pack of Pfeiffer back !
