Seems like the same people reply to posts.  Why join if your not going to participate?  Is it a status thing?  Gee I belong to 10 motorcycle sites, makes me seem like a ? ?. lolol

I usually get up at about 3 a.m., do all my webstuff, email, news, websites, and then pretty much stay off all day until evening, and take a quick look.

Come on Newbies and Long time users who have gone dorminate Start participating and make it more interesting than it is.

I'll admit to being one of the long timers who has gone dormant, but you have to take into account it's summer and most of us are out riding more than we're sitting in front of a computer.

And that reminds me, I need a new avatar too ... don't have that BMW anymore!

Topic on my mind is.... Toy Haulers... RV's with trailers......on their way to the rallies. Don't forget the Golf carts!
I'm PROUD to say that I made the ride to Sturgis this year to celebrate the 74th rally. 2500 miles round trip from Battle Creek Mi. (Went trough Sturgis Mi. just for the hell of it. You know, Sturgis to Sturgis)
Lookin back on it, loved every second of it, the wet ride, the Chicago traffic, the detours, the poor fuel quality, and the R.V.s don't forget the OTHER BIKERS. Nothing deterred me from my determination to enjoy my journey. I rode it alone, as my fellow weekend warriors riders all wussed out on the ride or took their R #!&^%%$##@@ V's.,or didn't go. No one to tell me when to stop, go, eat, piss, smoke, drink, like I said loved every second of it. The absolute best part of it all, was the people I met along the way, seriously. The fellow actual riders that is. They know who they are, the bikers
At camp, met a long time rally goer, 16 straight years he had RIDDEN his bike to Strurgis, from Baltimore. Respect that! He talked of his first years there and NO ONE brought their bike on a TRAILER! Everybody rode. That was the point. You got on your bike and you made the ride to South Dakota. Then, the rally started 500 miles from Sturgis, and by the time you got on 90 west, the highway belonged to the MEN and their BIKES on their way to the rally, Sorry I missed that. Meeting up with a pack of 50 to 60 bikes, was not unusual, and soon quite a large pack would train down a lane. Sweet. So sorry I missed that.
So.. now I say to all you umm bikers, who hauled their bike to last rally or event, if you can't find the courage to ride it, at least stay out of the fast lane on the upgrade, and let the real bikers get around your ass.

Well now SS, I have to agree but there's a good deal on our minds during riding season and most of the time I don't have anything all that important to say. Still, I'm one of those who DO post and reply from time to time as you well know. But hey, thanks to str8shootrever I actually have a bit more to say. LOL And BTW SS, we have to work hard on giving you a new handle. Something unique though. Not predictable.

So shooter, you and I are about the same age. The world is changing and we can't stop it from doing so. I don't know if this was your first ride to Sturgis or not but I've been there over a dozen times (on my bike). I've seen the RV's, Toy Haulers, etc. grow over the years. But I certainly don't begrudge anyone who "doesn't ride". There are a good many reasons for not riding; time constraints I figure is the main one but there's also the possibility of some physical reason why a dude doesn't ride. I don't think lack of courage is one of 'em. So you made the ride. Big deal!!! Yes it is but don't get behind some pulpit 'cause you made the journey.

I will say this about all the "haulers" though. They create a hazard for those of us who do ride and WE have to be even more cautious and aware. As for any future plans I might have to attend the rally again; I seriously doubt it. Been there, done that; I'm older and grumpier and more impatient and all the hoopla just doesn't appeal to me anymore. But the rest of the world should go and have all the fun they can endure while they still can.
    Peace

Good post, and I agree wholeheartedly !!! Sometimes I feel like just the guys are posting and I would like to see more of the ladies post also. Please do!! I know we have quite a number of ladies who ride on this site, yet we hardly ever hear from them.

The main reason in my mind, for the lack of responses,is its summertime and a lot of folks are busy or involved in other projects.

IMHO this is the best motorcycle board on the web,its all inclusive,Lucky doesn't have any agenda here except to promote riding and the site features some excellent vendors, who really should be posting more on a personal level in general. Not saying they should flood the board about product, yet they should be more actively involved.I know I enjoy reading the blog/posts from our friends Russ Brown & Co.

We come and go as the seasons change. Some folks just don't want to comment. It's pretty much the same on other sites, a dedicated core group and a few that pop in from time to time.
St8shooter, Jimmy said it right. Congrats on making the ride, allow those that take their RV's to do so without your disdain because we don't know what another's path is like. We can only walk (ride) our own path.

I agree, no way you can get on every evenin, every mornin, every day it is just not possible. Ya know that The Forum - General - OFF TOPIC is for anything, just like this. How your day went, Ya wish more people responded, lookin for ideas, opinions, attitudes, etc.

I agree it is summer, but you would be surprised at how many folks, especially down South get out early and are done before noon. On the weekends, they might head out one evenin for a meal out, but they are home more than they want to admit.

This is a good forum. I was a member of one, that stated no nudity, and they would post photos that were on the edge of it. It was almost a porn site. All the naked women in see through stuff. Mostly no one posted about riddin a motorcycle, it was mostly non bike related.

So this is off to a good start, wish the 10+ people who joined over the last 3 or so weeks would post their arrival.

Well have a good evenin and look forward to readin your posts.

Glad Str8shooter added his post, it was interesting for sure.

I can see both sides of the RV/Hauler discussion. And I don't get irritated at the guys showing up at rallies trailering their bikes to ride 20-30 miles a day and trailer home. Mostly they're funny to watch. But it's pretty easy to tell those that were caught in a circumstance and someone that is worried their tushie gets sore riding more than 2 hours/day. You don't have to try so hard to look the part if you are the part.

In 2013 the Euro Harley Rally was in Rome.  A. pretty easy 3 day ride.  Most from a local HOG chapter trailered their bikes until about 40 miles north of Rome and rode in from there with the trailer looking like it was along as a chase.  I worked with a guy in his 30s that has an 1800 Honda and he won't ride the 250 miles here because his butt hurts to try and ride this far.  It's like the difference between living 'on' the world and living 'in' the world.  There's always gonna be those that wanna look the part but they don't really want to be the part.

I got an idea. Why not start having contests structured to where people have to be involved.  Like maybe a trip to Europe and bike rental to ride to the Euro Harley Rally next June.

"I got an idea. Why not start having contests structured to where people have to be involved"

We already have that in the form of the games here except people don't "have" to be involved as a prerequisite to belonging to the forum. Hell, some topic always comes up that sparks interest. But one of the inherent problems with lifestyle based forums are the rules against talking about fire tendering subjects such as politics and religion. Hell, I'm 66 years old and that means my lifestyle is as well yet it's one that is or has been enjoyed by so many; to the point of being redundant at times. I mean, exactly how much more (motorcycle lifestyle) can I talk about that even requires a response from anyone anymore?

My wife and I have been talking about getting a toy hauler. We would like to do some destination riding, but she's not real excited about sitting on the back of a bike for endless hours just to get to a new area to ride. She says it hurts her hips and back. She can usually do about 200-250 miles a day. At that rate, we would spend most of the vacation getting there and getting home. Our other options would be to fly and rent a bike or haul the bike in the back of the truck and stay in motels. Not sure which idea is best.

By the way, I have ridden my bike to Sturgis. I didn't like the crowds but I did enjoy riding in the hills.

Right on Fred. Another example of why folks can't necessarily ride all the miles. Gypsy and I have both had back surgery. Me? I can still ride. Gypsy is going out with me for the first time since her surgery. She's been given permission to ride for an hour at a time. It may come down to us thinking of other options if things don't go well for her. Funny thing about rallies. I've gotten too old to remember how much fun they were when I was younger. Now they just seem like a hassle. Hey!!! I'm STILL A FUN GUY though. LOL

I'm glad to here Gypsy is getting better and can ride again. I've kind of been wondering how she was doing.

Jimmyacorn I think if we keep it Cycle related, which is not hard to do, we can have some good postings.

I agree, about the riding the bike all the way. Even with a good seat, like on my Sporty, I can make better time towin the Bike and ridin when I get where I want to ride. I think renting a bike to be way to expensive, if they charge what they charge here. $100 a day and up. Rental cars for a nice one can be as low as $35 a day. Cost me nothing to tow my Scooter and leave it locked on the trailer and rent a Room for the evenin. Way less than flyin some place and rentin a bike.

I have heard good and mostly bad things about Sturgis. I like the smaller rallies, where a lot of the morons do not attend. And I like riding to some of the events, Seafood Festivals, Smaller swap meets, etc, one way about 200+ or less miles and rent a room in advance so When I get there it is one way trip, rest stop for a day or 2 and then home. Usually try to take monday off so I can stay for a 2 day rest stop.

Found some great little places with Kitchens that if you drove up to them you would say "NO FRIGIN WAY" But after stayin in some of the cleanest rooms, in some of the most dilapidated lookin places I have learned to belive, Looks can be deceiving. And price was less than half of one of the chain places. Takes a little prep but worth it. Did I ever get a total dud? Oh yea, One place the roaches offered to wash my back lololol.

Wow Jimmy is an old Geezer lololol......

Man I created a good post lolol, the responses, for me, have been awesome.

     Geez...

Without seeming redundant, or condescending...here S.S.

I believe this questions has already been asked.  MANY TIMES.

Ya"ll know...I know.  Right?  That it is still...Summer.  For a minute.  And far be it from me, to interrupt ANY of that. LOL But, I've asked this same thing of Ya'll.  Many times, over the years.

WE, who for whatever reason, ain't able to ride...
    WE, LIVE vicariously THRU YOU.

    SO, we depend upon YOU!
To share, the stories, the rides, the pic's, and the LIFE.  K?

    SilverSportster?
    I. aint sayin' NUTHIN, that ain't already been said.

So...SHARE already.  Winter's comin'....and WE ALL KNOW IT!
There's a chill, in the air.  And I for one, ain't ready to pull out the "woolies".

    Ride Free (& share, wouldya?)
    Tweek

Nuthin against the other thread about hauler's here...
but that, too, is on many threads.
    I'm answering the "loyalty" call.

I used to belong to several other motorcycle sites. I found that my opinion would either be critiqued heavily in a negative manner or the other folks on the site who had been members for along time did not care what I had to say. Perhaps some of the newer members on cyclefish have been treated this way and their waiting to jump in after awhile. My Friend and Riding partner Ron has gone to the ends of the earth to make his site different and I'm sure once they realize this they too will feel welcome and participate. Thanks Ron for all you do!!

This is a good site and their are some fantastic ppl here. I rode alone to the 2014 Redwood Run and because I had a half day to kill I decided not to go straight down, but stayed on I-5 from Tacoma WA into Woodland CA (just north of Sacramento to hook up with Ron and Curtis and several other CF members. 2 hours later we rode into town for dinner even with all that riding could have done 400 more. Stayed in a hotel room for the first time ever while riding a scoot. Next day we rode as a group into the Event. 3 days of rocken good times. Sunday found me riding alone and heading for home, 16 hours in sun, fog and coastal cold, back into the sun entering Oregon, and late afternoon started adding layers of cloths. Come dark in northern Oregon, temps dropped as quick as the daylight did. Low 40's entering WA, then the rain started. Fueled and warmed up in Napavine then back onto I-5 for the 90 mile ride home getting in about 1am. Legs were so cold it was difficult getting off the bike. Another great ride and event! Rode to work the next day and a week later rode up to Mt Rainer.
BTW, I have three trailers and my motorcycles have never been in em.

I too am guilty of not posting often, but I am here 4-8 times a week.

I first joined CF in December 2009 and was a very active member posting stories and pictures, and even giving away Motorcycle parts. I also had some patches custom made for several members of CF, but in the end I got to wrapped up in my harsh opinion's of world problems, and strayed away from proper cycle post subjects. It took me quite a while to learn to shut my pie hole, so now I mostly just log in to read all the post.
OH yea about hauling vs riding your bike....When I was younger I road everywhere.....AGE does have it's limits.

Hi everyone, made the trip to Sturgis this year and are hoping to make it back for the 75th. Friends made the 900 mile ride on their new ultra and me and the wife met them in Chamberlain. Admit we trailered -- wife ass gets sore after 150 miles and even bought her a new airhawk seat cushion. Does help but non the less with the truck we were able to haul everything we needed and extra for friends that rode bikes!! Stay in Deadwood and enjoy the day trips. Catch the trolly for a buck down town Deadwood at night. Did a few small tips in Wisconsin this summer -- we live in Northern Illinois and Wisconsin has some great places for a weekend trip. Dam this summer has gone by to dam fast !! Hate to say it but I need to get the sleds ready soon, last winter hit early and often ! Safe travels
