I am the Director of Jean Dean RIF (Reading Is Fundamental), a statewide non-profit that puts top-quality, age-appropriate books into the hands and homes of kids in need--for most, the FIRST books in the FIRST books in their homes. Our mission is to put books in their homes before they start kindergarten so they can be ready to do well in school and life. I have met a lot of very caring folks who ride through some of my volunteers who are also riders. They helped us start a annual fundraiser called RIDE TO READ. It is a Motorcycle Poker Run and each year we try to grow our participants. We have great food (catered by Outback Steakhouse) , prizes, music, an auction, a bike show and a safety conscious scenic rural route determined by local riders. Hope you will be joining us on June 2 at the Big Swamp Harley Davidson in Opelika! Bennie Adkins, Vietnam Veteran and Medal of Honor Recipient, will be our local author this year!
