I usually keep these things in the family, but I'm feeling some love here...lol...so here's one I wrote.
Everything is Right Key of A Tempo: 84BPM :Copyright 2008 James Barnhart
Sittin here on a Sunday afternoon,
The rain is on the window pane.
Takes me back to evenings at my grandma’s house,
Catchin’ night crawlers in the rain.
You had to grab ‘em quick before they saw your light,
Crawlin round with ole’ Ed Brown,
My jeans were a muddy sight.
Sittin down by the river on the boat ramp,
A coal barge is chuggin by,
’72 GMC with the tailgate down,
a YooHoo and an oatmeal pie.
The morning sun was lightin up that Flatwoods riverbank,
And me and Dad were skippin rocks and guessin how far they had sank.
Just a couple times that I recall when everything was right,
Way back when we were all still here, and everything was right.
Standing tall as the Captain read those words,
Old Glory in the morning sun.
Fifty years after my Grandpa served,
I could feel him as that Medal was hung.
Granny said the Master’s brush paints all that is this place,
And from my flying machine I can see His amazing grace.
Yeah there are times that I recall, when everything felt right,
Some good times that I remember, when everything seemed right
(Instrumental)
Sittin’ here watchin’ my children play,
They’re runnin’ all around this place,
My wife looks over and catches my eye,
A smile spreads across my face.
Everything before now just dims and fades away,
And in my heart I know that I can finally say,
No matter what happens now, I know I got it right
No matter what I accomplish now, I already got it right.
(Instrumental)
Now we're all here again, and everything is right.

There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas
The trouble with the maples
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade
There is trouble in the forest
And the creatures all have fled
As the maples scream 'Oppression!'
And the oaks just shake their heads
So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights
'The oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light'
Now there's no more oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe and saw

Defcon, so good with the words...
Sittin down by the river on the boat ramp,
A coal barge is chuggin by,
’72 GMC with the tailgate down,
a YooHoo and an oatmeal pie.
So cool, I love YooHoo and oatmeal pie!!!!!!!!!

I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
Far away and dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Well, every moment spent with you
Is a moment I treasure
I don't wanna close my eyes
I don't wanna fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you, babe
And I don't wanna miss a thing
'Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
I'd still miss you, babe
And I don't wanna miss a thing
Lying close to you
Feeling your heart beating
And I'm wondering what you're dreaming
Wondering if it's me you're seeing
Then I kiss your eyes and thank God we're together
And I just wanna stay with you
In this moment forever, forever and ever

It's all the same
Only the names will change
Everyday
It seems we're wastin' away
Another place
Where the faces are so cold
I drive all night
Just to get back home
I'm a cowboy
On a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted
Dead or alive

Mike - you come up with some great topics! There's so many - here's a few of mine in no particular order:
1. Imagine - John Lennon - makes me cry every time
2. Maybe I'm Amazed - Paul McCartney - always brings thoughts of my husband and the trials and tribulations we've faced over the last 22 years and we're still here and stronger then ever
3. Chevy Van - Sammy Johns - this one's probably pretty obvious.....
4. Shooting Star - Bad Co. - friends that have ended their lives
5. Numerous Seger songs - probably no explanation needed there
6. Sitting at a Red Light and Lie to Me - Johnny Lang (worth checking out if you like blues and haven't heard him)
7. Unwritten - Natasha Bedingfield - heard this song for the first time not too long after I got sober:
I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned
Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can do it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Youse Guys......
Youse Guys......
Youse Guys are simply ...
AMAZING!
Thanks again all, I merely offered all a place to express what they feel. I really liked all that were posted and I will further say I did expect to see so many great words, given the wide gamut of deep and free thinking people here.
