My new Hobby

  • April 15, 2016 12:16 AM PDT
I have found the key to good health after retirement is keep busy, and keep your mind active. Well I have by no means mastered the art of woodcrafting, but I'm working on it. My Church seems to keep be busy making and repairing items in the Church.
Here is my latest project...A Prayer Alter, and Kneeling Bench.
Oh course these projects has to be fit into my Honey Do List.
    Everyone stay safe

    That is awesome!!!

I love wood working myself and find it very relaxing (as long as I can finish without the need for medical attention :-)

Well the wife has been bugging me about buying an Ottoman for the living room, and I have been putting it off, so I told her I would make one,
Started out with a shipping palet as a frame, then build the sides of left over lumber from a window project. The thing was so heavy I had to cut out the existing lumber within the palet. For mobility I installed handles. Two types of stain and a southwestern style bed spread we never use and there ya have it. It didn't look so big until we got it in the Living Room.....oh well guess I will have to build a bigger house...LOL

I don't know what the heck is going on in my mind, but lately I can't shut it off. I just keep thinking of things to make. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing.
Last Little project, which didn't take long.

The stand looks good.As does the foot bench & the rest.
You have a talent for it,keep up the good work.
One of these days I am going to get back into leather work,
I actually became pretty good at it in HS.

Did you ever do any wood burning, and if so, have any tips for me?

Well look at you, all crafty and doing good at it too, from what I can see. Ya know, that ottoman would be a great place for a couple 'Hide-aways'... You know, hidden compartments for gold coins, pistols or anything of a sinister nature that can be hidden and when needed, accessed quickly.
All of the pieces you've shown us are looking very nice indeed. Glad you're staying busy, I'm sure your church and your Lady are happy about that too! A busy Dragon is a happy Dragon!

Well this my latest project, and I call it the Cammo HillBilly Deck Table with Light.

Took an old lamp shade and removed the fabric replaceing it with wood slats, then bought a $7 lamp at Home Depot and boxed it in on top of the table.

I started out with a stain that didn't look good after finished, soooooooooooo decided to cammo it.

My Wife hates it and says it looks like something a HillBilly would want.........So I reminded her...Duh...we live in Tennessee.

Think I will start selling these little projects at the local flee market, and try to get back a little of the money I spend on these projects.

Very nice.  Like that it was made from pallets - great re-appropriation of material.

And you are not boring us.  This is cool stuff and I personally love to see it!
