This is “Little Red Riding Hog”. We bought it new June 23rd, 2000, after trying Kawasaki, Yamahas, Hondas and looking for a bike that would let us tour together long distance. Just liked the Batwing fairing better and ride.
We got to test that out in 2003 when we joined the southwest rider group going to the 100th anniversary of Harley-Davidson. This was the group led by Willie G Davidson and his family! Willie G. Nancy his wife, and their two grown kids Bill and Karen. It was there that “Little Red” and the both of us would be a part of the biggest party that ever was. Even after coming back through Sturgis and riding the great Rocky Mountains, Little Red continued to take us to Las Vegas NV, Laughlin rallies, and all around the southwest.
For 25 years “Little Red” has provided “sanctuary from life” rides for my wife and I as we rode for charities and for fun. Even after 25 years we still ride year-round. When you find a bike that fits the two of you so well that you want to adopt it as a member of the family you've found your ride. To all the guys on this page who are thinking about getting their dream ride, to last them through the rest of their life, I encourage you to write it down and seek it out. Save up, put a bunch down, pay the rest off fast, and ride it till the wheels need to be replaced.
In 25 years, I've replaced a side stand relay, and a voltage regulator. When we bought it we kicked it out to 95 cubic inches, and at 40,000 miles we added a nice low-mid cam and did the whole cam-chest with an upgrade oil pump and cam chain tensioner.
We pretty much have it set up the way we're comfortable for long rides, and are always thinking of what our next ride is going to be. Yellowstone is pretty high on that list. At 71 I'm here to tell you that life is short, buy the bike, fix it up how you like it, and ride the wheels off it as long as you can. Until the bitter end that may be as close as you get to heaven. #HarleyDavidson #Ridetolive #soulmates #neverstop
Update: In June of 2025 my wife and riding partner of 50 years passed unexpectedly. Lil Red and I carry her with us in our soul as we continue this journey. Ride today, tomorrow is not a certainty. Via con Dios friends.
