W I  N   D   Y    ! Predicted gusts to 65mph, sustained winds from 35 to 45mph. In the early morning I went to town on Rex to photograph an Art-Car parade. It was a bit blustery but manageable. After the parade was over I pointed Rex north towards Roz, our RV. There is a canyon that we pass through and I want to say WOW, (expletive deleted), WOW! The gusty winds there were switching directions instantly and randomly. Now this old biker has some miles in the saddle but this was, to greatly understate, a bit exciting. The point that scared me was after coming out of a sweeping turn, with Rex straight and verticle, running 65mph, we suddenly moved about a foot to the left. I do not mean we were pushed to the left with a hard gust, I mean the bike got real light and instantly was relocated. It felt as if we were...    less

Riding 40 years and last week I thought I could get up north for a wedding before a big storm hit. I was wrong. I just got on the freeway, 35 from North Branch, MN and heard sirens behind me going off, then it hit . . . . 40-50mph winds, rain and large hail coming sideways along with tree branches, boards, signs, and my helmet and goggles fogged up so along with the rain, hail and wind I could only see a few feet in front of me. Still thought I'd better get to a turn off rather than sit on the side of the road and get hit from behind as everyone except me was pulling over. Made it 15 miles to exit ramp at 15 mph, yes a long ride, pulled into open business, glad to be alive!! Thought I was going to get hit by a tornado.

On a honeymoon in Negril rented the biggest bike on the island (they said) a 750 Shadow and went for a ride up the mountains and, since it was Negril and a honeymoon, I only had on a skimpy swim suit. At about 50 mph I saw it coming from the right out of the trees and it looked like mist. When I went through the mist it became a swarm of bees that hit me everywhere. I had 50+ bee stings and looked really funny on the beach for the rest of the honeymoon. I also bought a windshield for my bike when I got home!!

     Lucky,

Hello from Minnesota!!  Don't know if there are others on here from Minnesota, but there should be.  This appears to be a great site.  I've been riding since childhood, dirt to road.  Currently have two, a customized 02 Shadow Aero 1100 with 65K on and a newly acquired Victory Cross Country.  I do custom leather work as a sideline.  I'm a past member of AMA, current ABATE member, past SCRC member, and current member of the LOST 202 Riding Club, honorary members of MN COC.  I've ridden all over out West, Southwest, MN, WI, ND, SD, CO, MT, AZ, NM, UT, TX, CA, ID, IA, NB, OK, etc.

I posted a Minnesota event and I would encourage folks from other states to do a similar event.  Check out the Ride For Dads July 23, 2011.  It's a fund raiser to raise awareness of prostate cancer.  Had a new doctor not suggested I take a PSA test in May of '09, the urologist who saved me said I likely would have died in October of 2010.  So it's a pay it forward event I started last year.
