  • Rain Out Reschedule! The WCMG and Backroads of Appalachia Present our First Annual "All Aboard Ride" 2024 with our Partners at United Motorsports in Richmond, KY! Take a ride or drive with us on one of our most popular new trail routes, Coal Train 421! Sponsored by ARC, The State of KY, Jackson County Tourism, Clay County Tourism, The City of Manchester Ky, and Harlan County Tourism!

    This is one ride you do not want to miss as we take you on a journey through the heart of Eastern Kentucky and our Coal Mining and Military History. Did we mention the best burger around at Pat's Snack Bar in Manchester? We will also explore downtown Harlan and visit Umbrella Alley, The Courthouse, and the Monuments and Murals in Harlan including the World Famous Possum Mural and the new Birds Mural just completed by our partners at Kustom FX Graphics! Dinner in Harlan for those who are hungry at some of our favorite places such as The Harlan Beer Company and The Portal Pizzeria which is named after the Famous Portal 31 Coal Mine and Tour located in our Founding town of Lynch KY! Also in Harlan County! Come join us as we Ride COAL TRAIN 421 and the leaves start to change in our mountains! A day to remember! See our Schedule Below!

    All Aboard Coal Train 421!

    September 14th, 2024

    9:00AM-Kickstands Up! Riders South will meet at Walmart in Corbin, KY to ride to Richmond, KY.

    10:00AM-Riders North will meet us at United Motorsports in Richmond, Ky off of Exit 90 on I-75 at the start of Coal Train 421!

    11:00AM-ALL ABOARD!-Kickstands up! Next Stop Our Backroads of Appalachia Freedom Ridge Welcome Center and the Big Chair!!

    11:45PM- BOA Freedom Ridge WC and a Photo Opp in the BIG CHAIR! Grab a cold Drink, See the Local Crafts and Historic Artifacts, and learn the History of the Civil War Battle of Big Hill! The Building itself is part of that history and is currently being renovated!

    12:45PM-Kickstands Up! Next Stop The Jackson County Veterans Memorial in McKee, Ky! One of the most incredible Military memorials in the State!

    1:15PM-The Jackson County Veterans Memorial, one of our favorite Veterans Memorials honoring all who served and those we have lost and it is right in downtown McKee, KY!

    1:45PM-Kickstands Up! to Clay County and Manchester, Ky and home to Pat's World Famous Snack Bar. Voted Best Burger in Kentucky!(We are not making that up trust us)

    2:45PM-Lunch at Pat's World Famous Snack Bar! Enjoy the state's best burger and experience the beauty and small town Appalachian charm of Manchester, KY right in the heart of Clay County and the Land of Swinging Bridges!

    4:00PM-Kickstands Up! We are headed to Harlan, Ky and the heart of Kentucky's Coal Mining History!

    5:30PM-Fuel Stop in Harlan and Explore Downtown Harlan! Also Dinner for those who are still Hungry even though we just ate 3 hours ago! - Choose your eats at some of our very favorite places downtown and visit the Murals and Coal Monuments in downtown Harlan including the Possum and the Famous "Umbrella Alley" which now has a new Mural created by our friends and partners at Kustom FX Graphics!! There are so many things to do and see in downtown Harlan we could spent a weekend there!

    7:00PM-Head Home on some of our favorite routes as the Sun Sets over the Mountains such as Gateway 119 and Revenue Runner Hwy 92 Back to the Williamsburg or Riders North can head back to Corbin and Barbourville from our stop in Pineville, KY!

    Join us as we take you on Journey through the heart of Eastern Kentucky on Coal Train 421! All are welcome, Cars, Bikes, Jeeps, and Slingshots! Stay Tuned Right Here for more Details!
