Event Desc

  • Ohio Welcomes the Sisters' Centennial Motorcycle Ride (SCMR) presented by BMW on July 8 & 9 as part of their cross country journey celebrating the 100th anniversary of Augusta and Adeline Van Buren’s courageous and unprecedented ride across the United States on Indian motorcycles.

The Ohio and surrounding area motorcycle community will be instrumental in making the Ohio stop a memorable experience. We invite all riders, clubs and the non-riding community to make this once in a hundred years event a must-do this summer within the great state of Ohio.

Registration for the Group Ride to Vintage Motorcycle Days features food, fun and a great feeling. The $30 fee includes:

    -- Donuts and coffee breakfast
-- Organized group ride to Mid-Ohio from Pickerington, Ohio
-- Saturday only entry into Vintage Motorcycle Days (VMD)
-- Infield parking with the Sisters’ riders
-- Donation to the event charities

Also, for an additional fee of $5, there will be an option to participate in the Lap of History (a lap around the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with the Sisters’ riders). This feature will depend completely on the cooperation of Mother Nature. This option will be available for purchase on site at Mid-Ohio.

BACKGROUND OF THE SISTERS' CENTENNIAL MOTORCYCLE RIDE:
In 1916, the Van Buren Sisters were the first women to cross the continental United States, each on their own motorcycle. They became the first women to reach the 14,109 foot summit of Pikes Peak, CO by any motor vehicle. In 2002 the sisters were inducted into the AMA's Motorcycle Hall of Fame and in 2003 they were inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame.

The ride will loosely follow the Van Buren sisters’ 1916 route, primarily following the Lincoln Highway across the United States from New York to San Francisco. Combining scenic routes and major metropolitan areas, the route will allow for great riding as well as promotion and visibility of female motorcycling role models.
