  • As we all know, November is Lung Cancer Awareness month. With our next run hitting so close to home, we are joining forces with Harley Davidson of Tampa and Brandon, along with Quaker Steak and Lube, to bring Richard Curtis, a life longe rider, and father for two of our members, one last ride.

On December 24, 2014 Rich received the worst news that any family can get. He had a spot on his lung and it was cancerous. After many tests and biopsy’s the results came back that he had stage 4 bone cancer on his hip and state 3 lung cancer. The Oncologist advised him to have 6 rounds of chemotherapy. The first 4 rounds of Chemo that he went through were very hard on Rich. Daily he had to have his lung drained so he could actually breathe. Many trips in and out of the doctor’s office to get blood transfusions and IV fluids to keep his strength up.

After enduring 5 rounds of the chemotherapy another PET scan was ordered to see if the chemo treatments were working. To our surprise the stage 4 bone cancer was no longer detected on the scan and the lung cancer shrunk in size from 5.8CM to 1.5CM.

This was the greatest news that the family could have ever received. His Oncologist then told Rich that he would be starting on a Maintenance chemotherapy to keep the cancer at the point it was at. After 4 rounds of the maintenance chemotherapy Rich was starting to feel worse so his Oncologist decided to do another PET scan. The PET scan results were devastating. The cancer in his lung had spread to into his Lymph Nodes and 2 more tumors appeared on his lung. His Oncologist suggested that they try an experimental chemotherapy but there was no guarantee that it would work. As of right now, there are no signs of improvement, and time is running out quickly.

Rich has always been a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to everyone he knows. He has never given up on anything and his family and friends will never let him give on this fight. He is not alone and never will be. It is not just HIS fight, it is OUR fight as well.

Please join us for an entire day event on November 21st at 9am, at Harley Davidson of Tamps. There will be a packcake breakfast served with juice, coffee, donoughts, pancakes and sausage. $3 dollars per person.

Then we will be leaving for the run at approx. 10:45am making our way through Tampa to all of the best spots, and local favorite sites for Richard to enjoy.

Quaker Steak and Lube is also a sponsor for the event and will be our center spot for lunch and a little rest.

Next out to Harley Davidson of Brandon for the rest of the day. The event will be hosting Richard and our campaign, our ending spot for our run, a classic car show, vendors, food, raffles and much much more. This is a family event and we would love to have everyone in the community joining us to show their support to such a wonderful man.

Please make sure you share the link, invite others to the event and by all means reach out to the Bay Area Saints with any contributions, or donations for the event, raffle, or the family.
