We are conducting our Inaugural Shakes, Rattles, Rides and Rods For Parkinson’s
Event on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Hidden River Travel Resort, 12500
McMullen Loop in Riverview, FL from 12-6 PM. AMVETS Post 44, the
American Legion Riders Alafia Chapter Post 148 and Go For A Ride Magazine
will host this event. All proceeds will benefit the local Frances J. Zesiewicz
Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease at the University of South Florida, Tampa and
the National Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF).
Over five million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s disease, a
chronic, degenerative neurological disorder whose symptoms typically progress
from mild tremors to complete physical incapacitation. In the United States, an
estimated 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. There is no known
cure for Parkinson’s disease. Current treatments mask symptoms but do not alter
or slow disease progression.
After I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, I decided that I would not let PD bring
me down. I am proactive and wanted to do something personally to further the
foundation’s mission to fund cutting-edge research to bring meaningful advances
in treatments and eventually a cure to people affected by this disease. I spoke with
Mike Savidge, publisher of Go For A Ride Magazine and discovered his wife,
Charlette, also has this disease. We’ve joined forces with the American Legion
Riders Alafia Chapter Post 148 and AMVETS Post 44 to get the ball rolling.

Shakes, Rattles, Rides and Rods For Parkinson's Disease aims to raise $10,000 or
more to enable the foundations to continue aggressively funding research to find
better treatments and a cure for Parkinson’s disease. The majority of our
donations will be kept locally to help PD patients in the Tampa Bay area.
There will be a short motorcycle ride led by the American Legion Riders Alafia
Chapter Post 148. To participate in the ride to Hidden River, register at Post 148
between 10:00 and 11:15 AM. Kick stands up at 11:30 AM from the American
Legion Alafia Post 148, 4270 US HWY 301 S., Riverview, FL 33569. Food and
entertainment is included with your donation of $15 per person or $25 per couple.
Scheduled activities include prize drawings, auctions, raffles, live music by Terry
Cole & the Honky Tonk Hitmen, as well as Karaoke with Catherine Steele,
vendors and educational presentations on Parkinson’s Disease.
We are asking for your support. Sponsors, vendors, raffle prizes and cash
donations are being sought to support this worthwhile cause. Our goal is to assist
in continued research, and awareness of this devastating disease. To that end, we
will need the backing of corporate sponsors as well as our friends and family. We
are asking for donations of products, gift certificates or promotional items that we
could raffle or auction to raise funds for our cause. Any assistance you provide is
