As I said I collect almost anything old. yesterday I picked up a couple more make and break (some call them Hit and miss) engines 1st is a 1896 11/4hp weighs about 400lb 2nd is a 1902 3/4hp weighs about 300lb I also got several water pumps from 1850s-1930s

1894 Associate 1 1/4hp weight app 400lb water cooled. notice it had grease caps and oil glass no need for those fancy new gadgets like oil pumps 

centrifugal force locks the exhaust valve open controlling the RPMs,   LOL  that sq bar is the push rod for exhaust valve

look at the valves intake works off of suction exhaust works off the cam

Carb no butterfly just air and needle valve Remember speed is controlled by exhaust

Big hole in the top is to be filled with water as needed for cooling

believe it or not it still turns over and has good compression

Just think back to when you said "I don't like working on those new computer engines, give me the good old days of Carbs and points and condensers" The guys that worked on these said the same about those "I don't like those new fangled engines Funky carbs and water pumps and spark plugs

make a good pump motor. or maybe an air compressor motor?

The "Old Timers Meet" is a big deal around here. Have lots of pictures but mostly of the steam powered equipment (I am very boring)
