Ka-BOOM

I was sitting in front of my computer last night just before midnight and I hear a couple little odd pop sounds, the next thing I hear is a BIG KA-BOOM and my whole house just lights up like it is day-time.  I turned and looked out the glass door right behind me to see this enormous fire ball and the entire sky lit up.

Not sure exactly what caused it, but either the transformer on the top of the pole directly behind my house (about 100 yards away) blew up causing the pole to break or the pole broke and the transformer blew up when it hit the ground.  Even the power company crews out there this morning can't determine the exact sequence of events.  There were no cars involved in hitting the pole... just one poor guy who was at the intersection and wound up with down power lines surrounding his car.

Of course in light of the recent events all kinds of stuff went through my mind at first ... even though I didn't think someone would blow up the Del Taco behind my house.

The power company crews are busy this morning replacing poles because when the pole fell it tipped or broke two or three poles in each direction.

The picture below with the sign and the tree in it was taken from my back yard...

    Damn Jihadists!

If I had to guess I would say that a small asteroid failed to burn up in the atmosphere. The jihadists saw it come in and take out the power transformer, so they took it as a "sign" and started taking out the remaining poles before their leader could claim it was a false alarm and stop them. Now they are laying low and hoping no-one noticed.........how's that for a theory!!!

sjsak, funny you should say that, cause the first part ran through my head. First I thought an explosion at Del Taco, my second through was a asteroid or metier. Amazing how fast the mind works. Then when I saw all of the street lights out I figured it was the power poll and that someone must have hit it.

And yes tweek it scared the crap out of me and my dog. We have hard wood floors and I swear it was like a cartoon... her legs were going 100 mph but she couldn't get any traction!

Sorry no conspiracy just physics. IM (not so) HO...looks like it was raining and the pole was wet, maybe soaked. Then the transformer shorted and that turned the water inside the pole to steam instantly thus the shattered pole. The transformer exploding was most likely the ka-boom.
