Hey I'm a newbie and trying to figure out how to navigate through this site... I would like to learn how to send a freinds request and hoe to message people... Some users have neat profiles with back grounds ,

For friend requests and messages... go to the users profile page and in the left column you will see links for Add Friend and Send Message.

To change your background... on the user menu (right under the Main Menu bar at the top of the page you will see MyProfile and a small down arrow next to it. Put your mouse over that arrow and click Edit Profile Layout. You will see some pre-made layouts to choose from.
